Rajasthan's orange dawns, smoky evenings on Varanasi's ghats, the chai-smoke-train-crowd density of New Delhi, camel traders bargaining at the Pushkar fair, children's games among the golden sandstone walls of Jaisalmer. India does not forgive photography — you either enter it fully, or remain a tourist. After a single journey I still feel I am on the surface; but when even the surface is this rich, there is no reason to hesitate to dig.
