Getting lost in Fes's nine-hundred-year-old labyrinth medina is not an obligation but a pleasure; the sharp smell of the leather tannery is still in my nose. Chefchaouen is an entire color — blue, every shade, every surface, even the cats sleeping on doorsteps. In Marrakech's Jemaa el-Fnaa: snake charmers, storytellers, jugglers, evening grill smoke, mint tea. One night in the Sahara — so many stars the sky is no longer black. The Berber villages behind the Atlas Mountains feel like a different country.
